Mardi Gras Float Riders getting ready to throw beads! Colorful brushstrokes
A carnival of motion — riders perch on the edge of a glittering float, knees bent, arms cocked with strings of beads that catch the sunlight like little promises.
Bold strokes of color describe the scene: splashes of colors reflecting off the floats and costumes, a swipe of chartreuse on a sequined sleeve, heavy impasto of gold where light pools on metallic trim. The palette is festive and applied with playful, confident strokes that make the scene leap off the canvas. This is Mardi Gras as a moment and a memory: fun, messy, and alive!

Driving to see friends travelling on I-55 you can see the familiar Cajun cabins only accessible by boat. Makes you want to hop in a boat, sit on the porch enjoying some jambalaya and listen to Louisiana music.

This is the first in a series from photos I took at a Second Line in the French Quarter in New Orleans a long time ago and finally painting. It was almost a year post Katrina and things were looking much better! The New Orleans vibe and culture never really left, but it was definitely back in full force that Sunday afternoon. The band members switch out over the years, but this brass band of young men can always be seen playing for the crowds around the French Quarter.

This is a little cottage home in my neighborhood in Houma just selling pecans from their big tree in their yard.
